So, the first week involved a lot of standing around and waiting while we completed all of the in-processing paperwork and everything that needed to be completed. And of course, here in the Army, they like to do things alphabetically by last name. The significance of that is that having a last name that starts with a "T", there are only about 15 people that fall in behind me during this process. Gotta love it though, that's the Army way. Last week we were given our M4's. For those that don't know, the M4 is a shorter, lighter, more tactical version of the M16. We were all using an M68 CCO sighting system on our M4's also. This is a scope that simulates a red dot on the target, although one is not projected. We spent the entire week zeroing, practicing, and qualifying with them. It is interesting having to qualify with a weapon/scope system that you have only fired ~30 rounds with... (Weather: 40's - 80!; sunny/windy)
We started this week with a weapons range to familiarize everyone with the M249, M240B, M203, M2 .50 CAL, and MK19 weapons systems. And of course, this guy was the OIC for that... It went pretty well, considering the sub-freezing temperatures and freezing rain that was falling on us all morning. And now that it's in the low 20's and has been sleeting for the last 30 hours, there is no vehicle traffic allowed on post. Meaning that we're stuck in the barracks all day with nothing to do other than cards and computers... AWESOME!!! So, now we just sit and wait for the cadre to figure out what exactly we're going to be doing for the next day or so...
